Key competencies: Programming and simulation in MATLAB, technical paper writing

This was a project conducted as part of the Integrated Course Block at Olin College. The project’s primary objectives were to write a MATLAB simulation program on a topic of our choice and then to write a comprehensive technical paper outlining the project and its outcomes. Together with a partner, we decided to investigate an airline scheduling system that made use of a combination of elementary logic rules, implemented in a numerical computing environment. Due to simplifications we did not expect this model to have real-world applicability; instead it was intended as a foundation for further investigation in this area and also for gaining familiarity with programming and writing technical papers. Given an initial demand, our model would show the total number of planes needed to fulfill this demand and would output a flight schedule for each individual plane. The attached paper examines the parameters, abstractions, strategy, results and limitations of the model implemented.
